About The Devotion of Matthieu Ricard:
Time magazine has called Mattieu Ricard “the happiest man alive.” Find out why! This engaging
documentary provides a sense of how Ricard discovered his path as a Buddhist monk. Filmed on
location in Europe, Tibet, India, and Nepal, The Devotion of Matthieu Ricard (2008) traces
Ricard’s trajectory from studying cellular genetics in France to practicing the dharma in the
Himalayas. Ricard was a devoted student and disciple of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, a renowned
Vajrayana master, who gave teachings throughout the world (and who was featured earlier in
our series in the documentary Brilliant Moon, as well as in Yangsi). The film documents their
close relationship, as well as how Ricard continues to work closely with Khyentse Yangsi
Rinpoche, Dilgo Khyentse’s recognized reincarnation. Ricard has served as a translator for His
Holiness the Dalai Lama, who also appears in the film. Running time: 1 hour, 7 minutes.
The Blue Mountain Dharma Film Series (BMD Film Series) is a monthly educational seminar on
Tibetan Buddhism. Meeting on a monthly basis to view and discuss films illustrating Tibetan
Buddhist practice, the seminar features documentaries and biographical films focusing on the
lives of notable Tibetan lineage
