Yangsi

About Yangsi

Produced and directed by Mark Elliott, Yangsi (2012) picks up where the documentary, Brilliant Moon, left off. Yangsi is a documentary telling the life story of Dilgo Khyentse Yangsi Rinpoche (1993– ), the recent reincarnation of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche (1910–1991), who is remembered as one of Tibet’s greatest and most revered Vajrayana masters. (The name “Yangsi” translates roughly to mean “the one who has come again into existence.”) Narrated by Rinpoche himself, the documentary traces his recognition at the age of four as the incarnation of Dilgo Khyentse. The film delves into what Rinpoche’s education and training has been like as a reincarnate tulku, and it presents a candid perspective on the pressures and expectations that come with his many responsibilities in the Tibetan-Buddhist community. Running time: 81 minutes.
